A dietetic internship is a mandatory program that nutrition students must complete prior to taking the registration examination to become a registered dietitian. It must be completed through an accredited institution. It is generally a 9 month rotation at various facilities, following an RD and learning about the field and different areas of practice. A majority of the rotations will be done in hospitals, with the rest being in school foodservice and government funded nutrition programs such as WIC or headstart. I will also be taking masters classes. What is really is meant to do is give nutrition students exposure to all areas so that they can determine an area to focus on, while learning more about the nutrition care process and giving facilities staff relief. Did I mention it isn't paid? That's right...it's full time, unpaid, and I'm moving out in a month....
So I won't get paid, yet. I've really never been so excited and happy in my whole life. Things are going really well. Still some kinks to work out with the finances and Eleanor's education, so I could use some prayer and encouragement. Thanks everyone for your support and congrats!
